It appears that every single day of a year has some type of ODD Holiday being celebrated. On Monday, September 19, 2016 it was “Talk like a Pirate” day. ARRRGGG is what I say about THAT holiday!
I recently participated in another Shoebox Card Swap with a group of card makers. We belong to a MEETUP.com group and these Shoebox Card Swap events are fun because there’s no fee to participate, and you can show your creativity and share techniques or even show how a tool might work. Personally, I call that last part an Enabler Alert. Usually when I see some type of tool that will make my life easier, I will buy it.
I loved the Fantastix tool. I used color pencils and Odorless Paint Thinner to blend the pigment on part of a card. Usually I will blend with a blending stump or a tortillion. This blending tool held the OPT longer and was so smooth on the paper. So yes, I bought a couple of packs of the Fantastix later that day! Now do you understand the Enabler Alert description?
As far as the Mini-MISTI (which is the acronym for Most Incredible Stamp Tool Invented.) goes, it’s a great idea, but IMHO overpriced. I realized there are costs to creating patenting, and production, but $45 for a small tool is a little out of my comfort zone right now. I can afford it, but I’m just not sure I want to pay that much for it. Hopefully it will come down in price. I’m all about finding a bargain.
Okay, so the odd holiday I chose for my card is National Ice Cream Cone Day, which is today, September 22nd. I found a variety of ODD holidays on a website called Days of the Year. I literally scrolled through each date and found some holidays that would correspond with stamp sets I could use.
This is the card I created:
Yes, because everybody loves ice cream, right?! Well, if you think about it, it’s the day for the ice cream cone–so no ice cream for YOU! Yeah, RIGHT!
I used a Sizzix die to cut the card base. The cardstock is ALL Close To My Heart, except the neon pink and the Printed cone on the left side. The Ticket stamp image, (S1111) white stars and red heart, and inks are also all from Close To My Heart. The ice cream scoop layers and cone on the right are from the Stampin’ Up! set called “Sprinkles of Life” and they are punched out with the SU! Tree Builder Punch. The WOO HOO! stamp is also from a Stampin’ Up set (retired, 2015 Saleabration Party Pants.)
The cone on the right was found via a google.com search for ‘line art ice cream cone.’ I copy and pasted it into my Microsoft Publisher program and added word art to each ‘swirl’ and the bottom of the cone. Then printed a dozen on one sheet of letter sized paper, and colored them with Promarkers. I fussy cut the graphic and adhered it to the front with an ATG Gun.
Speaking of an ATG gun, I created this graphic one day and posted it on my Instagram:
Yes, strange sense of humor, but this is about the only gun I like to use. It’s easier to pull the trigger on this baby than a real weapon and a lot less dangerous.
Have a wonderful & happy National Ice Cream Cone Day!!
